To begin building a basic data table, imagine creating a worksheet that tracks monthly expenses for a family. Start by placing a clear and descriptive title in the top-left cell, which helps identify the purpose of the table. Directly below and beside this title, you define the structure of the table using row headers and column headers. Row headers are placed down the first column and describe the categories of data, such as types of expenses. Column headers are placed across the top row and represent time periods, such as the months of the year. Once these headers are in place, the body of the table is formed in the cells where rows and columns intersect, and this is where the actual data values are entered.
